Markets Looking good in the Short term

Gaali Pata I am afraid would have lost its Sutra !
Kannada movies have been made a mockery of in the last decade. Really shitty and no witty scripts, only love & gangster movies galore, really "fantastic" actors, directors, you feel my pulse.
MM -was what ppl called it.. mungaru male as the name suggests, its the beautiful first downpour that happens amidst the royal summer end bringing in ill health to some and a sigh of relief to the rest. This movie bought the middle class Karnataka back to theaters and the average looking, acting hero of this movie became a super star overnight. The director was revered and the whole process of MM became an urban legend (how it was made, what was the profits, what they all got as salaries et al). I will digress to some extent here about MM. I loved the music, cinematography was somewhat different from rest of the other herd, felt G(Ganesh) has some potential but did not & still do not understand why this became a super hit. It had a really badly planned story line (of course it was about love) and well an oft repeated hackneyed theme of unrequited love. But it clicked for the larger populace and well placed the movie and all its crew at the top of the heap. All thanks to people who were ditched by fair sex, that made the MM producer enter into Forbes richest Kannadiga list ..he he:)
For those doubtful about the geography of Karnataka, we are in the southern part of India where actors tend to become demi gods or Gods even based on a clichéd dialogue or a stance/walking style or even good acting. The hero of MM (Mungaru Male) was no different.,he became Golden Star Ganesh overnight and every movie of his in 2007 was a hit and most of them on the wave of MM..thanks to the wave riding community we have. The director of MM (Yograj Bhat) had after giving a zillion interviews on TV also started work on his second film Gaali Paata. This review is about this “Masterpiece”. Do read on if you have the guts & gumption. I had it because I paid good money to go see this movie late last night
The movie was no read REALLY SAME as MM and the only difference was 3 heroes instead of one. When a super duper hit is made, the crew tends to have a really big hangover of their earlier project and this is extremely evident in Gaali Paata. There are very similar shots to MM, story line tends to meander (yes, meander. There is no flow rather it looks more episodic in nature) around the same lines of MM. Some of the differences are some good ad libs that are too far and to less in the flow.
The movie is about 3 boys who seem to be obsessed with love, what else. Of course as viewers we do not really get to hear the other 2 actors opinion (Diganth & Rajesh Krishna) as they have no or extremely limited dialogues in the movie. The movie is centered on Ganesh and throughout the movie; he seems to be the only person who speaks. The 3 bored boys unaware of what to do in the city head out for the hills (Diganth’s Grandfather’s estate). There are huge references to Dil Chahtha Hai (DCH) and some to Swades also. In addition to this, there is also a camouflaged reference to Brad Pitt of Ocean’s 11. Ganesh eats food through out the movie except for the scenes where he has to cry in the rain to prove what a super star he is.
Here we are introduced to the neighboring family where there is a retired hunter (Anant Nag, what a waste of a good actor) with his 3 daughters (2 daughters & 1 DIL) & a wife. The director should have really researched on the life of a hunter before he took this characterization. There are enough books from Jim Corbett, Purna Chandra Tejaswi on this subject but I do not think they have been referred to. The 3 boys pronto fall in love with the 3 girls. There is no progress of love; rather they just fall in love. Why, why they like her and not the other one is left to your rather our imagination.
So the movie progresses along old lines of MM with song, some cute interludes between Ganesh and the rest of the crew. I as a viewer till then had no inkling of where the story would finally end. Into this movie enters a wild boar. This is the hunter’s nemesis and has rendered him a cripple when he tried to kill it the last time. The 3 boys (read only Ganesh, as he only has dialogues in the movie) goad the hunter to take on the boar again and they all go against the boar. The fun part of the movie is the last hunt for the boar. The hunter stops hunting because he sees Vishnu in a wild boar. Yes, we all laughed at Nirupa Roy getting & losing eyes in the same movie. This genre and style has been religiously maintained by our dear Kannada Directors. It reminded me of Narada Vijaya, another popular Anant Nag kannada movie
Between boars, like obelix, the heroes (not Ganesh as he is the unrequited love Star) find love in the other 2 girls conveniently and also sing songs to boot.
Diganth & Rajesh both sing songs, dance but our boy has yet to get his love. This happens in most probably the world’s worst planned climax.
Yes around this story are also other characters like Diganth’s Grand pop, Ganesh’s parents (Rangayana Raghu had limited scenes but was at some points funny & Sudha Belwadi was just the lucky mascot) who come in and go for some vague reason as they have some or none to do with the story.
I end with one line the current reigning super star of Kannada says in this film. He tells the cop who has stopped his friend as he had hit a barricade while he was drunk-driving. Ganesh tells the cops that they should go easy on boys who drink as they drink due to a love failure and cops should understand that boys can only drink. The crowd in the hall roared approval to this and made me wonder, if guys like me will ever get a break to make movie. I would never be able to uphold such a cause.
It was a good movie if you had knocked the doors of theatre without any expectation or without any idea about how our Ganesh would look like or render his "Acid mixed with Alkali" lingo that makes LFBs extremely moved and touched and hence triggering them to fire whistles at the super star.
Upendra once took the crowd for a ride with his knife razor edge lingo which was somewhat different..He bawled out at the females making the male community feel that he showed the reality of life, every female was projected as a "Kaun banega karorpati" question, with 4 options.
a)she is ready to fall in love and then ditch b)she does things that she likes but society shouldnt raise voice against her c)She is a total dumb and a sex doll d)She is always a threat to guys.
Now any of these options take you to the last question of "Kaun banega karorpati" and the question here is "Is there anything called love",the options given by Uppi are just two now a)NO b)Never
So ultimately producers, showing their cautious side after the lingo effects started to haunt film industry, cashed in profits while they debated their next move, undoubtedly the same is happening with Ganesh.
G again sidelines females and scratches his heart to the core to prove that gals are there to screw a man's life from all angles, which again isnt true.
Lets see if Uppi or G does any Pro Female movies from here on perhaps help me write a better blog in appreciation of it here.
